About Switchboard

Rekla

Switchboard has been an institution of the Frankfurt gay and lesbian scene for more than 30 years! Here you can meet friends, spend the evening in a relaxed atmosphere with fair prices, celebrate parties, go on a foray into the still existing (gay and lesbian) scene, or indulge in homemade cakes on Sunday.

The motto for Switchboard is: ‘We are from here’. Many of the dishes and drinks come from the region. The cuisine ranges from homemade quiche, Rindswurst (beef sausage), Frankfurter sausages from the Quirin butcher's shop, Handkäs from the farmers' market, to delicious homemade soups. Most of the wines also come from the region - for example, award-winning wine from the Wagenknecht winery in Rheinhessen are on offer. Hessians don't have a bad taste in cider either; Matsch und Brei delivers the best quality Apfelwein to Switchboard’s customers.

Switchboard brings all good things together; since 1988 it has been the control centre of the gay and lesbian scene in Frankfurt. In addition to the bar, it offers space for various groups. Many like-minded people meet in the two group rooms and at several regulars' tables. In summer, the garden invites one to linger in the greenery, and the lounge offers a place to rest. In addition, numerous and sometimes regular events take place, without which the Frankfurt gay and lesbian scene would be poorer. Events such as the Beat Club, the Offene Bühne, SWITCH-Kultur, SWITCH-Theatre, SWITCH-Cinema, and the big SWITCH-Karaoke (every first Sunday evening) are worthy of mention here. Moreover, numerous parties on fixed dates such as RosaMontag on Rosenmontag, Tanz in den Mai, Oktoberfest, Halloween, Beat Club or New Year's Eve round off the programme.

The Switchboard team works on a voluntary basis and is committed to a good cause in a very special AHF facility, as it is the only café of an AIDS-Hilfe organisation in Germany that has existed in this way for decades.
